Lets Dream Thai Architecture

It amazes me the creativity & passion of Thai architects. After living in Thailand for many years it was an obvious choice to hire Thai architect and let their talent be unleashed.

Story

After lots of drawings, calculations, experimenting with angles and sizes, we decided it would be interesting to chat to an amazing architect we know, to see what ideas he had and to consider a completely different option to what we’d come up with.

Let’s just say, there’s a reason architects have to do a six year degree! There are sooo many factors to consider and they have the incredible ability of maximizing the potential of every space.

Introducing Joe Sanya, of Architects 11 based here in Phuket.  Well straight away, he came up with an idea soooo much cooler than ours, no surprises there, but we fell in love with his inspiration behind his design, the old Natai pier (pictured below). The rustic timber, the angles, the history, the story.  We were sold! We wanted to make sure the pier had positive associations in the minds of locals, and that it didn’t conjure up memories of the tsunami, or anything else we weren’t aware of.  So we checked with our landlord, 65 year old Baa Bom, and she instantly sent us beautiful memories from her younger days on that pier, and that made us love the vision even more.  We love a good story, some local history, and of course a sea weathered piece of timber!

That old pier has since been replaced with a more modern, concrete version, so we love that we can carry on the memory of that old pier, in the design of Talay Beach House.
